For the briefest of moments, Dana's heart stopped beating. Inhalation and exhalation halted. Then without any fanfare, her vital systems resumed functioning. Which was fantastic, really great, but voluntary muscle movement below the neck remained elusive. Dana panicked at the thought of being a paraplegic.
So she screamed, or at least really tried to. It came out like more of a whimper since her lungs were too busy breathing normally to supply her with sufficient air to make a respectable noise.
No moving. And even screaming was out of the question. What *could* she do? Dana decided to look down and inspect the damage the ray did to her sternum. She expected a smoking hole in her chest, so finding that all the stupid thing did was cause some minor inflammation came as a relief. Wait, the area was getting puffier. No, actually, those were her breasts billowing outward, unchecked.
Time to scream again. She didn't bother trying to be loud. For the benefit of any possible onlookers she just opened her mouth wide: the international pantomime for extreme distress. This sequence has been animated by Sergio on the Process Forums.
I'd say it was quicker than a few seconds. Maybe I should have wrote that her heart "skipped a beat," but this was more dramatic. Maybe overly dramatic! Sorry ;)
Anyways it's just flimsy justification for her remaining in place for this whole ordeal (a poor man's series of picture repaints).
A cause of BE that DOESN'T give the intended subject boobs as large as her head as an end result? I'm surprised people care more about the near-death experience part.
