Woot's How-To for Oekaki

Woot
This tutorial isn't about how to draw, its more about using the OBBS paint program to create artwork.

First, I suggest you don't maximize the window. I drag the browser window a little to the left off screen to hide the back button. You'll be using undo a lot and you don't want to destroy all your work with one click. Trust me :P

#1. Rough "pencils." Lay down some lighter colored lines (don't have to be blue). Don't worry about making everything clean right away. Its more important you get your idea down in this stage.

#2. The layer palate is to the left. Create a new layer above your sketch later. Then make sure you click on the new layer to enter it. Chose a black line and start going over your sketch following the lines that look best. You can turn off the visibility of the sketch layer underneath by clicking the eye icon next to it so you can check on how your inks look without the blue backing.

#3. Go back to your base sketch layer and create a new layer above it. Fill that layer with a medium gray. Now you can see where in your ink layer you left gaps. Seal off the bits (esp around the eyes), as you'll be filling these areas later. Also feel free to change around your drawing here or in any of the early stages. You want to be happy now because the further you go the harder corrections become.

#4. Start filling in areas in the ink layer with the paint bucket. Get happy with your general color scheme here.

#5. Add shadows and highlights by making lines with your pencil tool at the borders of the highlight or shadow area. Then fill.

#6. Now go back into your gray middle layer and draw a background there. Keeping the figure and background independent makes changing either one a lot easier. Also boobs distract the viewer and make them not notice the technically bad parts of your drawing. Plus they're awesome.

Now you can take your multilayer file and save as a PNG. It'll flatten the visible layers for you. There you go, a basic drawing in 3 layers. Hope that helps.
