Historines: The Congress of Vienna [Commission]

Historines: The Congress of Vienna [Commission]
Following the defeat of the First French Empire in 1814, the four victors; Russia, Prussia, Austria and the United Kingdom gathered in Vienna in 1815 through 1816 to redraw the maps of Europe. Two main issues dominated the congress.

Firstly, the establishment of a European power balance, as to avoid conflicts such as which had just passed. To accomplish this, Europe was largely redrawn to the borders it had prior to French Revolution. France, the losing side, was given its territory circa 1780. Two buffer states, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Sardinia-Piedmont was established in the Northern and South Eastern French border, respectively, to protect Germany and Italy from French influence.

The German states and Italian states were recreated. Denmark saw the loss of Norway to Sweden, for its alignment with France during the war, though it gained the Duchy of Lauenburg in compensation.

The victors themselves saw fit to increase their territorial gains, Russia, Prussia and Austria all took their part of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, the Kingdom of Poland's successor, wiping it completely off the map. Prussia also saw the acquirement of the Rhineland, a land rich in coal and mining, which was important for the industrial revolution in Germany. And Austria regained control of Venetia with the addition of Lombardy.

The United Kingdom, for its part, sought no territorial gains on the continent, but did obtain the islands of Helgoland in the North Sea and Malta in the Mediterranean, to further establish its dominance as a naval power.

Secondly, the re-establishment of old dynasties and repelling the spreading of Liberalism and the ideas which had sprung out of the French Revolution. The Kingdom of France was re-established in 1816 as the Bourbon Restoration.

However, these changes did not meet the aspirations of nationalists who wanted independence from the empires to form nation states, and it would not be long before this map would be contested. But with those boobs, it is obvious why no one contested it at the time.

I am loving these. You are making history awesome.

@Djoser: The girls are designing by me, first and foremost. Though, I at times leave certain details up to woot. I take some pride into designing their outfits. :]

@Melissa: Has anything been proper with this series so far?!

@Tafkas: I will admit, I am partially biased towards European history. Though, future pictures should redeem that.

KEEP THEM COMIN' ;)

SirJimmy on
@Melissa: It's British attire depending on what region she comes from. If she's from Newcastle and it's December and minus 10 Celcius and snowing, then it's perfect.

@Djoser: By the way, I keep improving on the functionality of the thumbnail gallery. So take a look there once in a while.

Also, you asked for my email some time ago, so I was sort of expecting more in my inbox, but that has yet failed to materialise, any particular reason for your wish to contact me?

Djoser on
You have some really stylish and classy ideas sir that suit the most buxom ladies for sure :P

Jud the Ineffable Vug on
I found it a bit interesting that the UK circa 1815 looks the same as England four hundred years previously, despite its unification with Scotland and conquest of Ireland in the interim - this wouldn't be subtle Scottish propaganda about the United Kingdom just being England writ large, would it? :P

Djoser on
@ Svip: the main reason is that I haven't been able to put my ideas on the paper lol, mostly because i get distracted easily, but as soon as i get some i'll send them to you...have you considered the swedo-russian war? or the struggles between danmark and Sweden during the XVII th century? Lastly but not least...do you like RTS games?

scissorpants on
/r/ Franco-Prussian War.

Either that, or Great Britain and all its colonies, with the poor uncivilized chumps as flat-chested waifs.

Gargravarr on
Sweet, a sexy redhead forr the UK! ^_^

Svip on
@Jud: So much propaganda. Also because I tend to use the 'image' of the historine for its following countries, e.g. Prussia would later become Germany and Sardinia-Piedmont Italy and so on. Also because it is easier for woot to redraw characters even if their attire is different.

@Djoser: Eh, the Swedo-Russian war is kinda boring. I have so far been reluctant about considering Scandinavian countries, but I may change my mind. Largely because I think Scandinavia has largely been the reverse of a success story; we used to be awesome! And lastly, I play mostly Grand Strategy games rather than RTS.

@scissorpants: No flat-chests here! This ain't toow art!

Djoser on
Thank you for the information, Svip, sir

Russia and Prussia are quite the awesome. I wonder if there is potential in them in a comic as roommates. Heh.
