Here's a hard to categorize half-commission, half-present for munemune. He even wrote a little story to accompany it.
The weather outside wasn't frightful, but the house of Erika and her friends still was toasty warm without a delightful fire. As it snowed lightly, the three decorated their home and enjoyed the holiday atmosphere. It was still early enough in the month to have the merriment, without the stress it was attached to. The stereo was playing non-stop Christmas music, carols and choirs, bells and Bing, the music kept the feel festive. "Carol of the Bells" faded out, and a more rock sound came on. The track went on for a while, before Catherine had to stop focusing on the garland she was hanging and turn to the others.
"I'm sorry, but is this song about a bunch of kids MUGGING Santa?" she asked, hearing the song for the first time.
Erika nodded, adjusting a few glass icicles on the tree. She was dressed in a seasonal sweater, red with candy canes. "Well... yeah. 'Father Christmas', by the Kinks. You never heard it?" She turned to Annette, who adjusted the hooks the stockings would go on.
"Frankly, I'm more surprised you're a rock and roll girl, Erika," she said with a smirk. Annette wasn't familiar with it either, as the Kinks predated her taste in music by a decade or two, but Erika usually wore headphones when listening to music, and she never thought to ask. She had just assumed the brunette's video game interests were all encompassing.
"Oh come on, it's not that weird!" she defended, the track advancing to Queen's "Thank God It's Christmas". She finished with the ornaments and went back to grab a dining room chair. They had gotten a nice sized tree this year, and even with her height, Erika needed a boost. "And now for the star!" she said as she leaned in.
Annette put up her stocking, a black one with gold trim, and went to the table to filch some homemade cookies. "I swear Erika, you're like an elf with how into the Christmas spirit you get." She chewed a bit, leaning back. She had to admit the tree had come out excellent though. "You don't even seem that nervous your mother is visiting us this year."
Erika seized a little. A chill ran down her spine. "Yeah, mom's where I got my taste in music... she's a real nice person." She climbed down from the chair quickly. She had just realized her friends had never met her mother, only going off minor references and photos. Erika bit her lower lip as she hid it behind a steaming mug of cocoa.
Nervous about seeing her mother for the first time in a long time, in front of her two biggest friends and two biggest critics? Especially since she still hadn't gone gift shopping, and had no clue what her mother would want? Nervous was the last word to describe Erika's state of mind. She sipped her cocoa.
About ready to snap from anticipation and stress was a much better way to describe her.
