El-Jorro, no, they were not inspired by Craving Control. They have been around since before it actually. Annette is an original character created by Axel Rosered, a very notable inflation artist on Deviant Art. Erika belongs to the commissioner Munemune.
Obviously the reason woot's not provided a holiday pic this year (and has been slow on the update for the last few weeks) is because he's all held up with commissions. Cut him some slack, it's Christmas :0
Honestly, the least WE could do is leave him be and not pester him about more artwork or updates about his life. We don't pay him, he never made commitments to anybody other than those who commissioned him or want to commission him (who are probably at least in some form of contact if they care enough), and he's fucking awesome to share all the work that he's done for other people - not to mention the tons of free amazing art over the last year or so. He's a person, not an art mule.
Come on guys cut him some slack, this is all free entertainment, and we can't blame him for being busy. He doesn't really owe us anything so we can't complain.
Hey now, there's nothing wrong with worrying about people. To request woot warns us about future absences is impolite, perhaps, but to me it actually implies a genuine concern for woot as a person, rather than a free art machine.
It's just a common trait to worry about somebody when they haven't had any online activity for a while - and let's face it, we can't single out Peppo here when panicking about woot disappearing is a VERY common practice on this gallery. Remember Christmas 2009, or much of the first half of 2010 when contributions were so sparce, some of us had honestly thought he'd died? :]
Jimmy - The problem is that it's an obvious worry about him as a contributor and an artist, not as a person. If we cared as a person, we'd probably also have the same worries about a majority of the other artists we see frequent other boards or *chans who up and disappear from time to time. For people to be as you say, they would've already emailed him and gotten some sort of response, and that's the feedback we'd get from these people. It isn't. I appreciate the attempt at giving credit to your fellow man, but it's honestly undeserved (unless of course you don't do this, and then high five!).
Bjorn - I actually see a lot of concern for artists that disappear, especially on *chan sites where communities are much stronger and close-knit (on a site like DA, unfortunately, it's difficult to spot a true friend amongst the sycophants and people who cling on for the artwork only). When a notable contributor publicly announces a departure, he'll receive comments along the lines of "oh I'm sorry to hear that bro, take your time". My point all along is that people tend to overreact to sudden disappearances on the net as there's no concrete way to find out if the vanishing artist is still around.
Of course, I am biased in this debate, as I *do* communicate with woot frequently via e-mail or otherwise, so I know he's not dead or anything. Peppo just comes off to me as more sincere than other people I'd be better off not naming.
That's just my two cents, though, and I appreciate the respectful reply. Although - you respect me for defending people, but even if I don't defend people, you'll give me a high five anyway? :P
Jimmy - I see your ideas behind it, and it makes perfect sense. The problem is, when people demand a response rather than seeking one out, they aren't doing what you're referring to. That's Peppo, and the other people who are less deserving of your praise.
I respect you for the fact that you're not one of them, so definitely yes, high five. Lo five too if coordination serves us (no banana peels). But for defending them, there is no ill or well-conceived will behind it, more trying to better explain my views.
I just had a thought... Maybe he's working on The Tale of Tenfingers. Or maybe he doesn't have private Internet access. Either way I sincerely hope he's not hurt or dead.
Yall chill out he's just on break as many have said before me. Woot has disapeared for months at a time. He's either on hiatus, or working on something big, I don't mean art I mean he maybe busy with work or something so yall chill.
Do pay attention, folks! He's already linked to his DA gallery here, like....... once. I didn't even know he had a DA until he commented on the Vicky pic that he'd drawn for me in the first place. Mind, pg1dude, there's no art there. All of his art gets uploaded here anyway, so as far as I know his only reasoning behind an account is to get round the PG block. He's a human being who looks at stuff, just like us! :0
I won't deny it was a pretty dickheaded thing to do; to give vague directions as to where his account is, and that to get his account just coincidentally involves visiting mine... 90% of my pageviews can be attributed to people looking at that one single woot pic.
