It never really seemed like Christmas in southern California. It was a sunny 79 degrees at the beach and waves lapped the shoreline as I fiddled with the batteries to a ridiculous remote control.
It was my Christmas gift from my grandpa, a retired electrical engineer and bona fide dirty old man with too much tinkering time on his hands. I had received many gifts like it. Most had since caught fire.
This one was a gray metal box with an antenna and two silver dials. One was marked ASS. The other: TITTIES. My grandpa was never one for subtlety. I took it to the beach with me for the hell of it, thinking it might be a good conversation starter. With the batteries in place it gave a faint hum.
That's all it was good for though. The dials turned, but nothing happened to the girls passing by. Great, another gag gift to collect dust in the closet.
